SDOVYC Chairperson goes to CADCA Mid-Year
From July 26 to July 30, 2020, SDOVYC Chairperson Miss. Joi E. Turner attended CADCA's Mid Year Training Institute. CADCA's (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America) Mid-Year Training Institute provided Youth Leadership Training Courses to develop the skills of youth in communities and provide them with necessary tools to help their coalition achieve community-level change.
Hear what Joi had to say about her experience:
“I learned a lot during CADCA’s Mid-Year Trainings. Even though it was only a week, I was told a lot of information and given a lot of resources that could help me improve my coalition.
For example, on the first day of leadership training, we were taught the 7 C’s which were consciousness of self, congruence, commitment, collaboration, common purpose, controversy with civility, and citizenship. Learning about the 7 C’s allowed me to better understand what values my coalition and I need to have in order to successfully educate our community.
I also learned about the Strategic Prevention Framework, how to complete a community assessment, the public health approach, and more. The trainers I had were incredibly fun and made the experience ten times better with their energy and excitement. I would definitely attend next year’s CADCA training.
Now that I have a better understanding of different strategies, I can help the rest of my coalition understand the strategies too.”
